See What Coffee Drinkers Say About Our Filter Coffee

What Is Filter Coffee?

Filter coffee is a brewing method where hot water passes through ground coffee and a filter, producing a clean, smooth, and flavourful cup. Unlike espresso, which is brewed under pressure, filter coffee extracts flavour more gently, allowing the unique characteristics of the coffee beans to shine through.

Filter coffee is popular amongst specialty coffee enthusiasts because it often highlights delicate tasting notes and offers greater clarity in the cup. Whether you're using a pour over brewer, Aeropress, batch brewer, filter machine, or drip coffee bag, filter coffee is an excellent way to experience the full flavour profile of high-quality coffee beans.

How To Choose The Right Filter Coffee

The best filter coffee for you comes down to the flavour profile you enjoy most. Whether you prefer bright fruit-forward coffees, smooth caramel sweetness, or rich chocolate notes, our range has something to suit every palate.

Why Freshly Roasted Filter Coffee Matters

Freshly roasted filter coffee delivers a noticeably better cup, allowing the unique flavours and aromas of the coffee to shine through. Unlike mass-produced coffee that can spend months sitting in warehouses and on supermarket shelves, our coffee is roasted in small batches at our café and roastery in Bayswater, Melbourne.

This focus on freshness helps preserve the delicate fruit, floral, chocolate, and caramel notes that make specialty filter coffee so enjoyable. The result is a cleaner, more vibrant, and more flavourful coffee experience in every cup.

Which Filter Coffee Matches Your Taste?

Not all filter coffees taste the same. Some coffees highlight bright fruit and floral notes, while others offer richer caramel, chocolate, and nutty characteristics. Choosing the right coffee often comes down to the flavours you naturally gravitate towards.

Love elegant floral coffees with exceptional complexity? Try Gesha King.

Prefer bright citrus notes and something a little different? Sudan Rume is a great choice.

Enjoy vibrant fruit flavours and aromatic coffees? Yellow Gesha delivers notes of lavender, raspberry, citrus, and lemongrass.

Looking for something sweet, balanced, and easy to drink? Yirgacheffe offers notes of vanilla, blueberries, and soft red fruits.

Filter Coffee FAQs

What does filter coffee taste like?

Filter coffee is known for its clean, smooth, and flavourful character. Depending on the coffee you choose, you can experience everything from floral and citrus notes through to berries, caramel, honey, and chocolate. Because filter coffee is brewed more gently than espresso, the unique characteristics of the coffee beans are often more noticeable in the cup.

Is specialty filter coffee worth the extra cost?

Many coffee lovers believe so. Specialty coffee is carefully sourced, graded, roasted, and prepared to a much higher standard than most mass-produced supermarket coffee. The result is a fresher, more flavourful, and more enjoyable coffee experience.

Is filter coffee difficult to make?

Not at all. While some enthusiasts enjoy experimenting with different brewing techniques, making great filter coffee can be very simple. Brewing methods such as drip coffee bags, Aeropress, and filter machines make it easy to enjoy quality filter coffee at home.

Do I need special equipment to make filter coffee?

No. While equipment such as pour over brewers and filter machines can be used, there are plenty of simple ways to enjoy filter coffee. We offer both whole bean and filter grind options, allowing you to choose a brewing method that suits your setup and experience level.

Should I buy whole beans or filter grind?

If you have a grinder at home, whole beans will generally provide the freshest coffee experience. If convenience is more important, our filter grind option is ground specifically for filter brewing and is ready to use straight away. Both options use the same freshly roasted specialty coffee.
